Heritage Breed Management is a career focused on the raising and conservation of traditional, native breeds of livestock. This includes preserving rare genetics and promoting natural behaviours (like foraging and maternal instincts). Heritage breeds refer to the native species of livestock found in a particular region (or country) and they are incredibly valuable to the landscape where they originated from. They thrive in the natural environment and play an important role in the preservation of the biodiversity of our natural habitats.
Heritage Breed Management combines tasks such as animal husbandry and land management with conservation breeding and grazing. You would be expected to carry out a range of tasks related to animal welfare and these tasks would vary depending on the heritage breed you are conserving.
