Introduction for
Learners

The purpose of the LANSS is to support a skilled, inclusive workforce fit for the future of land and nature based work in Cumbria, meeting the needs of communities and our natural environment.

The Land + Nature Skills Service is here to support anyone who lives in or near Cumbria and has an interest in the land and nature based sectors. Perhaps you’re already employed, self-employed or involved in volunteering; maybe you’re a young person (aged 16+) looking to develop a career in the land and nature based sectors, or maybe you’re looking for a career change. Whoever you are, you’ve come to the right place to start your journey!

The LANSS is not a course provider, but rather a one-stop shop for finding everything you need to get started.

If you’re looking for inspiration, check out our real-life Stories and case studies to hear from industry ambassadors and learn about how they got started in their careers, and head to our News & Events section to find out what’s going on in the land and nature based sectors in your area.

If you’d like to study, then head to our Course Finder where you’ll find everything from free online courses and workshops to college courses and university degrees, and everything in between!

If you’re interested in gaining work experience and developing your skills, then visit our Opportunities section where you’ll find work placements, apprenticeships, volunteer opportunities and training currently available across Cumbria and nearby.
