National Education Nature
Park

The National Education Nature Park is a new scheme which will allow young people across the country to actively improve their school or college site for nature and the environment. The Climate Action Awards will reward the young people involved and will celebrate their work. This scheme encourages young people to implement actionable changes to their educational site through a range of activities. Young people will learn about ecological mapping and biodiversity recording as well as working with artists to connect better to the environment. The scheme is cross-curricular and therefore, young people will be able to use the scheme to choose activities and resources which interest them and allow them to find their future pathway.

National Education Nature Park Logo

The National Education Nature Park has been developed by a partnership led by the Natural History Museum with the Royal Horticultural Society, supported by the Royal Society, Royal Geographical Society (with IBG), Manchester Metropolitan University, Learning Through Landscapes, UK Centre for Ecology and Hydrology and the National Biodiversity Network Trust. The partnership is working with geospatial partner Esri UK who are providing the digital mapping platform for the Nature Park programme.

The National Education Nature Park is a collective of the UK’s leading institutions within their fields, with world-class expertise across schools and Higher Education, science research, and public engagement with nature. Responding to the urgency of the planetary emergency and the Department for Education's Sustainability and Climate Change Strategy, this is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to transform the way educators teach climate education and support young people to act and increase biodiversity across England.

Nature Park Resources

The National Education Nature Park scheme has put together a pool of resources and activities to assist young people in learning about ecosystems and nature. These resources are also aimed at providing young people with the knowledge required to implement actionable change at their school site to improve nature and the ecosystem. Many of these resources highlight future careers in the 'green' sector and the pathways to attaining them.
