The Organic Research Centre (ORC) is the UK’s leading, independent, research charity working for better farming, food and health, promoting environmental sustainability, quality food and health and wellbeing for all.
Based on organic and agro-ecological principles the ORC work in the UK and internationally to research and develop practical, sustainable land management and food production systems. In addition, the ORC work to foster knowledge exchange with (and between) current and future producers, food businesses and related professionals. This in turn is used to influence policy and public debates on the future of food and farming based on sound evidence.
The ORC also run a series of courses and workshops as part of their “Living Lab” approach where they create networks of stakeholders who come together to collaborate, innovate and shape the research carried out by the ORC. By utilising this approach, the ORC enables the voices of farmers and land managers to be heard throughout the research and reporting and for their expertise to be learned from collectively.
In this workshop LANSS joined the ORC and Lee Basset at Kirkby Thore, near Penrith, to discover more about coppicing, how it can be introduced in land management and the benefits it brings.
