Help Shape the Future Workforce: Become a Dream Placement Partner

Across the UK, employers are being challenged to help young people develop the skills, confidence, and aspirations needed for future careers — particularly through the Government’s Youth Guarantee and growing focus on skills, inclusion, and social mobility. The Centre for Leadership Performance’s Dream Placement programme gives organisations a practical and meaningful way to respond right here in Cumbria.

This is not simply a week of work experience

Dream Placement is a six-month personal development programme that supports young people through coaching, employability development, leadership opportunities, and employer engagement — culminating in a one-week industry placement for selected participants. Every young person benefit from the development journey, while employers help inspire and shape the next generation of talent entering the sector.

Why it matters

Sectors linked to environment, land, sustainability, and nature face growing workforce and skills challenges. Dream Placement helps organisations:

  • Build awareness of careers and pathways for young people
  • Support social mobility and broaden access to opportunity
  • Develop future talent pipelines
  • Contribute to regional and national skills priorities
  • Demonstrate meaningful social value and community leadership.

For many young people, this experience is transformational

Recent placements with organisations such as Wild Garsdale Pike and West Cumbria Rivers Trust highlight just how powerful a single week can be.

“I have pushed myself out of my comfort zone and experienced a range of new things… it has all helped me to get one step closer to my future path.”
— Isabella Park, hosted by West Cumbria Rivers Trust

“Working outdoors meant lots of problem solving due to an interchangeable environment and this was incredibly valuable.”
— William Tancred Brown, hosted by Wild Garsdale Pike

Why organisations get involved

By supporting Dream Placement, organisations are helping fund and deliver a programme that:

  • Develops confidence, ambition, and employability in young people.
  • Provides leadership and career development opportunities over six months.
  • Connects employers with motivated future talent.
  • Brings fresh perspectives and energy into teams.
  • Creates visible impact within local communities.

Placements are flexible, fully supported, and typically involve a commitment to the selection process and a one-week placement commitment during February half term. A Small Commitment. A Lasting Impact. A single opportunity can change how a young person sees their future.

By partnering with Dream Placement, your organisation can help ensure more young people — regardless of background — can access meaningful experiences, develop workplace skills, and build confidence about their future careers.
