The UK's first World Food Prize Institute brought together aspiring young leaders aged 15-18 for a day of inspiring presentations both from guests and with the students themselves each presenting about their particular area of research. In advance of the event they had researched and written Global Challenge Papers on issues related to hunger, sustainability and agricultural development. Partner organisations including ourselves joined the exhibition space to and Tracey contributed to the evaluation and scoring of presentations and papers.

The students also took part in interactive leadership challenges and gained insight into potential career pathways with LANSS showcasing opportunities in the land and nature sector.

All participating students were recognised as Borlaug Scholars, recognising their achievement and commitment to addressing global food security issues. Norman Borlaug, is the agricultural scientist known as the 'Father of the Green Revolution" and founded the World Food Prize after receiving the Nobel Peace Prize in 1970.

Two students were additionally recognised for outstanding work and selected as delegates to travel to Iowa in October to attend the Global Youth Institute. One of these was from Keswick school, and one from Burnley College.

After attending the event, Tracey stated "LANSS were delighted to support the first UK World Food Prize hosted by the University of Cumbria. It was an outstanding day, the level of research demonstrated by the scholars was very impressive. We encourage all schools and students to participate in next year's event."
