Take a closer look at the ways you can inspire, develop and collaborate with young people

LANSS has had the privilege of attending a couple of online events recently and wanted to share our findings. They were both on a similar theme on how we can be more effective whether we are offering work experience or doing outreach to young people at schools and careers fairs and really make the most of our interactions.  First up was an 'Employer excellence in careers education' seminar followed by a 'How to embed essential skills into your careers education outreach' webinar.

One of the key messages in both sessions is that The Careers & Enterprise Company have prepared a good starting point for us all with their 'Employer Standards'. These provide a clear framework to organisations of all shapes and sizes to maximise the impact of employer engagement with young people, ensuring mutual value. Businesses today are facing challenges when it comes to recruiting people with the skills they need and effective engagement with the education sector through the Employer Standards can help open new pathways and opportunities.

Why not use the self assessment tool to look for ways to make your outreach more effective?

Linked to this is supporting young people to be able to better recognise and articulate their skills to potential employers. It is helpful if we all use a common language when describing these skills and use that to give examples of skills we use in our own jobs. See Standard 4 in the Employers standards for reference to Skills Builder's Essential Skills Framework.
